Just found out about the continuation of Star Trek The Original Series, in the form of *web* episodes distributed thru the 'net via downloads.
The new show will be the continuing voyages of Captain Kirk and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, NCC-1701 as seen in the 1966-69 television series, Star Trek. The series was cancelled after its third season. We are restarting the series as if it were in its fourth year. The people involved want to "bring back the Roddenberry spirit, ideals and philosophy to Star Trek."
Again - I am no Trekker, but yeah I do know that there has been dissatisfaction about the state of Star Trek series (I think they consider everything beyond TNG as pretty much trash), so I suppose this ST:TNV is the product of the dissatisfaction?
While there are of course new actors portraying the "classic" characters of Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty, etc... some actors are also returning tho I assume *not* to play their earlier roles. Walter Koenig (Chekov), and soon George Takei (Sulu) are participating in this!
Find out more about it all >HERE.
as far as I can tell, this "new voyages" is only available online, free for anyone (with no commercial intention) to download.
ReplyDeletebtw: ST:TOS *does* exist on DVD according to amazon.com... of course originals cost an arm and a leg... and I dunno if the people behind counterfeit DVVDs would bother with such a niche market like Trekkers... bummer, eh?
tag: I checked but didn't see anything.. will check again later :-)
